Alloy 825

Description

Alloy 825 is a nickel-iron-chromium alloy that offers outstanding resistance to a variety of corrosive and hash environments thanks to its chemical combination, which features molybdenum, titanium and copper. Properties include resistance to chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking; reducing environments, including those with phosphoric and sulfuric acid; and pitting and crevice corrosion. Titanium and appropriate heat treatment stabilize Alloy 825 against sensitization to intergranular corrosion, while chromium helps it resist nitric acid, oxidizing salts, nitrates and other oxidizing substances.

Design features

  • Exceptional resistance to stress corrosion cracking as well as oxidizing and non-oxidizing hot acids
  • Satisfactory pitting and crevice corrosion resistance
  • Good mechanical properties from room temperature to 1020° F (549° C)
  • Appropriate for pressure-vessel use at wall temperature to 800° F (427°C)

Applications

  • Sulfuric acid pickling plant equipment, including heating coils, tanks, crates, baskets and chains
  • Fuel element dissolvers
  • Offshore product piping system components and tubes sour gas service
  • Seawater-cooled heat exchangers
  • Paper industry – pipe digesters
  • Pipelines for wet sulfur dioxide gas
  • Phosphoric acid production equipment, including heat exchangers, evaporators and scrubbers
  • LPG (liquid petroleum gas) processing equipment, including air-cooled heat exchangers
